In my business, I use a lot of decal paper, but it's rare that I need anything larger than A4 paper size. But a recent project required the larger A3 size. I have a Canon Pixma printer that can handle the larger size.
The paper itself is great. It takes color really well. The images are crisp. It is also a breeze to use and apply. I always triple-coat my decals with Rustoleum 2X gloss clear spray.
Larger decals can have the issue of stretching while pulling the backing paper out from underneath. This paper did not do that. After soaking in slightly warm water for a minute and then letting it sit on a paper towel for another minute, it slid very nicely. I always put down a layer of water before positioning the decal and pulling out the backing paper. This allows me to float the decal into accurate position as I carefully soak up the water with paper towels until I can use a brayer to set it to the substrate. It dries good in about a half hour, ready for any further steps, like clear coats.
A little tip that I discovered.... For some reason, my printer would not recognize A3 paper size, even though there is a setting for it. So, what I did was make sure my design would fit within the dimensions of 11x17 paper. This meant I had more margin at left and right, but less top and bottom. I built my design, keeping those facts in mind, basically making sure I left sufficient margins at the top and bottom edges. Then I set the printer for 11x17, and the image centered itself perfectly.
